The complex is located in the immediate vicinity of the famous Weißenhofsiedlung and bears many features of the „Neues Bauen“ movement (New Building or New Objectivity). The State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart is one of the oldest and largest art academies in Germany. It dates back to the Académie des Arts founded on 25 June 1761 by Duke Carl Eugen von Württemberg. The "Architektenbau" or "Neubau 1" of the academy opened in 1968 after four years of construction on the Weissenhof campus. In 1972 it was supplemented by the so-called workshop building. In 2018, the 50th anniversary of the flat roof construction with reinforced concrete skeleton and concrete lamella facade was celebrated.
